30-Day Gospel of John Reading Plan

Read through the Gospel of John in the King James Bible, one portion each day.

Each day names the passage to read in your own Bible and quotes a verse from that reading. Finishing this plan, clicking a link, or sending a message does not mean you are saved. John wrote so that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Day 1: The Word Was God

Read: John 1:1-18

John begins by saying who Jesus is: the Word who was with God, and was God, and was made flesh.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Day 2: The Lamb of God

Read: John 1:19-34

John the Baptist points to Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Day 3: Received by Faith

Read: John 1:35-51

Andrew finds his brother Simon and tells him they have found the Christ. Jesus then calls more disciples.

He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

Day 4: Water Turned to Wine

Read: John 2:1-12

Jesus' first miracle in Cana showed His glory, and His disciples believed on Him.

This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

Day 5: The Temple of His Body

Read: John 2:13-25

Jesus spoke of the temple of His body, pointing to His death and resurrection.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

Day 6: Ye Must Be Born Again

Read: John 3:1-21

Jesus told Nicodemus that a man must be born again. John 3:16 states God's gift of His Son.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Day 7: He That Believeth on the Son

Read: John 3:22-36

John the Baptist decreases so that Christ may increase. Everlasting life is in the Son.

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Day 8: Living Water

Read: John 4:1-26

Jesus offers the Samaritan woman water that springs up into everlasting life.

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Day 9: The Saviour of the World

Read: John 4:27-54

The people of Sychar hear Jesus themselves and confess Him as the Christ.

And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

Day 10: Passed from Death unto Life

Read: John 5:1-24

Jesus heals on the sabbath and teaches that those who hear and believe have everlasting life.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Day 11: The Scriptures Testify of Christ

Read: John 5:25-47

Jesus says the Father has given Him authority, and that the scriptures testify of Him.

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Day 12: The Bread of Life

Read: John 6:1-21

Jesus feeds the five thousand and walks on the sea. He tells the disciples, It is I; be not afraid.

But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.

Day 13: Everlasting Life

Read: John 6:22-40

Jesus says He is the bread of life, and that he that believeth on Him hath everlasting life.

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

Day 14: The Words of Eternal Life

Read: John 6:41-71

Many turn back. Peter stays, because Jesus has the words of eternal life.

Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

Day 15: If Any Man Thirst

Read: John 7:1-24

Jesus teaches at the feast and says His doctrine is not His own, but His that sent Him.

Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

Day 16: Is This the Christ?

Read: John 7:25-53

The people argue about who Jesus is. His invitation to the thirsty still stands.

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

Day 17: The Light of the World

Read: John 8:1-30

Jesus says He is the light of the world, and that those who follow Him shall not walk in darkness.

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Day 18: The Truth Shall Make You Free

Read: John 8:31-59

Jesus says the truth makes free, and that if the Son makes you free, ye shall be free indeed.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Day 19: Now I See

Read: John 9:1-41

Jesus gives sight to a man born blind. The man testifies to what Jesus has done.

He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

Day 20: The Good Shepherd

Read: John 10:1-21

Jesus is the good shepherd who gives His life for the sheep.

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Day 21: They Shall Never Perish

Read: John 10:22-42

Jesus gives eternal life to His sheep, and no man can pluck them out of His hand.

And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Day 22: The Resurrection and the Life

Read: John 11:1-57

Jesus raises Lazarus and says He is the resurrection and the life.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Day 23: Lifted Up

Read: John 12:1-50

Jesus enters Jerusalem and speaks of being lifted up, drawing all men unto Him.

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

Day 24: A New Commandment

Read: John 13:1-38

Jesus washes the disciples' feet and commands them to love one another as He has loved them.

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Day 25: The Way, the Truth, and the Life

Read: John 14:1-31

Jesus comforts His disciples and says no man comes to the Father but by Him.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Day 26: The Vine and the Overcomer

Read: John 15:1-16:33

Jesus is the vine. He also promises peace in Himself, though the world has tribulation.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Day 27: This Is Life Eternal

Read: John 17:1-26

Jesus prays to the Father. He says life eternal is to know the only true God and Jesus Christ.

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Day 28: A Witness to the Truth

Read: John 18:1-40

Jesus is arrested and stands before Pilate. He says He came into the world to bear witness unto the truth.

Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Day 29: It Is Finished

Read: John 19:1-42

Jesus is crucified. He says, It is finished, and gives up the ghost.

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Day 30: That Ye Might Believe

Read: John 20:1-21:25

Jesus rises from the dead. John wrote these things that ye might believe, and that believing ye might have life through His name.

And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
