Many sincere believers wonder, "Can I really know that I am saved?" The Bible answers with a confident yes. Assurance is not based on our feelings, which change from day to day, but on the promises of God, which never change.
God Wrote So You May Know
The Apostle John wrote his first epistle for this very reason — not so we might merely hope, but so we might know:
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life."1 John 5:13
Christ's Own Promise
Our salvation rests on Christ's finished work, not our performance. The Lord Himself promises this security to everyone who is His:
"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."John 10:28
A Present Possession, Not a Future Hope
Notice the tense in this verse — not "shall have" but "hath" — eternal life is a present possession for the believer, not something still to be earned:
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."John 5:24
Rest in These Promises
If you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, you can rest in these promises. Your salvation does not depend on your strength or consistency — it depends on His faithfulness. He cannot lie, and He will not let you go.
